Cidesphere – Dawn Of A New Epoch

Turkish melodic death metal band Cidesphere return with their second full-length album, “Dawn Of A New Epoch“, to be released through Testimony Records on November 13th, 2020.

It is very clear from the beginning that the guys in Cidesphere have been listening to Swedish melodic death metal quite a lot. The songs on “Dawn Of A New Epoch” sound like if you would have mixed At The Gates, Hypocrisy, and also some In Flames from their mid-era.

The first play I was like, is this At The Gates or what? But, maybe it’s just a mark of quality when you hear something new that reminds you about something that was made like 20-25 years ago or so, that you really liked at the time. At times the guitars sound At The Gates, the melodies Hypocrisy and some screams sound like Anders of In Flames.

Back in the mid/late ’90s, I was listening a lot to melodic death metal, parallel with black metal, so I have been listening to this type of music many hours in the past, but not that much since the mid-’00s or so.

If you are a fan of Swedish melodic death metal, then you should check out the Turkish band Cidesphere and their album, “Dawn Of A New Epoch“.

You will get your riffs and guitars that you are used to hearing and the music as it’s whole is also something that you will recognize.

When it comes to the vocals, which is melodic harsh growl, mixed up with some screams. There are luckily no clean vocals on this album, other than some short “talking-like parts”.

So, in case you need your clean sugar-sweet angst vocals in your melodic death metal, then you should look for something else, but if that’s not the deal for you, then check out Cidesphere and, “Dawn Of A New Epoch“.

When listening to the Turkish band Cidesphere and this album, “Dawn Of A New Epoch” you will get melodic death metal from a time that was, maybe if you think back to the mid/late ’90s and some years forward from that, into the ’00s. The sound is like they have taken a little inspiration from here and there and selected the parts that they like the most and made something own from that.

I actually enjoy listening to this album, even if I don’t get a single black metal stain here, this is plain melodic death metal, and it’s great. There are many great songs on this album, but to me, the songs “Sacred Patronage” and “Death Is Only Ours” stand out the most and I would pick those as favorites on this album.

Would I buy this album?
I may do so, but as it is at the moment and many years backward, my melodic death metal albums mostly collect dust. But who knows, maybe Cidesphere can change that?
